My Wiltshire Life - Sally Boyle (August 08, 2006)

From the Wiltshire Times, first published Friday 30th Jun 2006.

SALLY Boyle was born at Trowbridge Hospital and has lived in the town her whole life, apart from six years spent in Westbury between 1976 and 1982.

Mrs Boyle, 47, of Drynham Road, has five children, several now grown-up foster daughters, and 13 grandchildren. She works as the activities organiser at Ravenscroft Care Home in Trowbridge and is one of the founder members of the Starry Eyes Performance Foundation, a voluntary group based at Longfield Community Centre, which gives youngsters and older children the chance to get up on stage and sing...

What do you like most about living in Wiltshire?

I like living in Wiltshire because I feel we have the best of both worlds; we are not far from the city and we are not far from the sea, so we can visit either without too much trouble, but at the same time live and enjoy or glorious countryside and great market towns.

Where would you recommend for a great evening out and why?

Anywhere my friends are. You can have a good night anywhere with the right company. A night out on the town visiting a variety of places is always fun.

Who would be your ideal dining partner and why?

I always fancied a night out with Rod Stewart, but maybe dining isn't ideal because we would probably end up singing and dancing on the tables.

Which local landmark or attraction would you recommend?

We are lucky really because there are so many to choose from. There is however one that I miss and that's the Rode Bird Gardens. We used to go there often and it was lovely. We could do with more attractions where we can take the older folk out, places that are wheelchair friendly and not too far away.

What is your favourite book and why?

Since I was a little girl my favourite book has been The Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. It was about a magical tree in a forest, which if you climbed it introduced you to lots of tree folk, and if you climbed to the top you popped up through the clouds into another land.

Favourite music and why?

I love and enjoy all sorts of music and it's a good job really as I can relate to everyone's individual taste and style in Starry Eyes and with the older people I entertain at work.

How do you relax?

I love to relax watching the soaps EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

What keeps you awake at night?

Not much. I usually sleep ok but if I don't it's usually through worrying about people or all the things I have to do and how I'm going to fit it all in.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you take?

My phone so I could let somebody know where to find me, my camera so while I'm waiting for the search party I could get some cool pictures and some coffee, just in case I meet up with natives and then I could offer them a cup.
