Lauren's Off to The Nationals. (April 22, 2008)

Live and Unsigned Winner

The youngest act in the whole region, won the best solo performance, and a place in the National final in Croydon on 28th June, with her original song 'My Perfect
Dream'

Lauren Medway who is part of Trowbridge based Starry Eyes Performance Foundation, blew away the audience and the judges at the Regional Final of the Live & Unsigned Final which took place at St. Georges in Bristol on Sunday.

There were 2 acts chosen for the National Final which will take place in Croydon. One solo act who is 11 year old Lauren Medway from Wiltshire, and who is still at Primary School, and a Band called ‘Class Act from Somerset’.  The other contestants were all teenagers between 16 & 18 years old.

Live and Unsigned is a national music competition for unsigned bands, vocal groups and solo acts to perform live. With over 10,000 registrations for the second year in succession, it is the biggest music talent search outside that certain ITV show. The competition’s unique format allows the UK's break through acts to perform in their own genre and style, encouraging the acts taking part to be individual and original. The competition’s aim is to find potential recording artists.

The judges will be looking primarily at musical ability, standard of written material and performance capability. The act’s image must be one that’s distinctively Individual and original, retaining an air of professionalism in performance and persona.

The judges will be seeking an act that has the potential to be signed for management to sell effectively. Subsequently, motivational skills are essential. The competitors who can sell themselves to those around them will give themselves every opportunity to win Live and Unsigned.

The Regional Final was a tough one as all the acts were first class, with many of them performing their own material, so we were absolutely over the moon when Lauren won with her composition.

The Judges said Lauren is a very accomplished artist for her age with a real raw natural talent, that is absolutely brilliant and she is definitely going places.  They said that they honestly believe they are looking at somebody who is going to be very big within about 5 years.

Watch the Live and Unsigned finals on Sky’s RED TV channel 186 from Tuesday 22nd April every Tuesday and Saturday 8-9pm.
