Upton Scudamore sits midway between Warminster and Westbury, just off the A350. Although it's only a small village there is a decent pub, the Angel Inn, a restored 18th century coaching house which serves food and drink and offers accommodation. The village was named after the Scudamore family, who were the main landowners there after the Norman Conquest. There are many fine buildings in the village such as Manor Farm which is on the site of the original homestead dating from beyond the Medieval period. Parts of the current farmhouse were in use back in the 15th century. The church of St. Mary the Virgin consists of chancel, nave, north aisle and tower built in the Early English style. Situated at the south of the village it was restored in 1859. Like many villages in the area this one owed its survival to wool but it is also famous for another product. Not being able to afford a full church organ in 1855, the vicar John Baron instead designed a small and cheap church organ and had it built by local organ builder Nelson Hall. The organs became popular with other similarly cash-strapped Rectors and were known as 'Scudamores'. Lastly and equally important is motivation, the competitors who can sell themselves to those around them will give themselves every opportunity to win Live and Unsigned. This is to promote a new single I have written with Sue (Yes... another Johnny and Sue Edward song! - Okay, our first number one hit was thirty years ago, but it's like riding a bicycle - you never forget - watch this space...) and produced by myself.
I have an HD TV crew who have agreed to come on board to make the video and a tanned muscleman who will be the 'monster' who beams down from a spaceship to the delight of a young gal, drivin' along the highway.
It is a fresh sound, with kickin' drums but borrows from rock'n'roll fairly heavily in the bridge with wailing sax and boogie piano.

REVIEW ----'Starry Eyes' LFB featuring Carl sang at Sutton Benger last Saturday 18th December with no other than the great late Bob Marleys cousin. Trevor Knowlden wishes to thank every one from 'Starry Eyes' for putting on a great show.
Review Aug 2nd 2004
Starry Eyes rocks Chicago! Chicago Rock café in Trowbridge was packed out on Sunday for the first of two auditions for the Starry Eyes talent show 2004. Even though the weather was glorious outside this didn’t stop people coming and showing their support for all the contestants, many of whom will go on to perform at the Starry Eyes show in the Civic Hall Trowbridge on 1st October. The auditions were judged by Steve Nash and Dawn Galpin from Trowbridge Town Council, Craig Evry from the Wiltshire Times and News, Kim Pearce from the Wharf Theatre in Devizes, and Molly Hopkins, who started the Trowbridge talent show in 1987. Among the performers to bravely step out on stage and perform solo was 10 year old Amber Kennedy who soon overcame her nerves and won the audience over with her rendition of "On my own" from the show, "Les Miserables". Other songs from musicals went down well with the audience especially 15 year old Rhiannon Lambert with "Can’t help loving that man of mine" from the musical "Showboat", and 7 year old Lauren Medway’s delightful "Once upon a September" from "Anastasia" Chart music was also well represented and included both modern songs by Dido (Claire Burke), Bett Midler (Laura Lewis), and the Black Eyed Peas (Dalton Gilling and Chassidy Brown), as well as some classics such as Son of a Preacher Man (Aimi Beaven) and the American Trilogy (Ian Jones). The 2001 junior winner, 14 yr old Amy Griggs looked and sounded every inch a seasoned performer as she got the crowd bopping to the party track "Get Happy" originally performed by Zoë Birkett. Starry Eyes director Sally Boyle said:- "We were overwhelmed with the interest in the show last year, and so this year we had to hold the auditions on two dates as well as finding a bigger venue. Chicago Rock café proved ideal and I’d like to thank all the staff for their help in making the show a success. The second audition show is on 22nd August 2004 and there’s still a few spaces available for contestants, so come along and have a go!" Chicago Rock Marketing Manager, Ceri Burrell, said:- "We were happy to help Starry Eyes by providing a venue for the auditions. We’ve just held the regional final of our Rock Idol competition for adults, so it was great to see both adults and children having a go – the standard was extremely high, and we’re looking forward to the next round on 22nd August!" Trowbridge-based production company Media Inventions Ltd have produced a video and CD of all the junior and senior contestants and is available either from Starry Eyes ( www.starryeyesperformancefoundation.org.uk) or directly from the company (www.mediainventions.com). Media Inventions’ managing director, Graham Risdon, said
"Starry Eyes is a great outlet for local talent and provides a great opportunity for both children and adults to build their confidence by performing in front of the cameras, as well as a live audience. We’re pleased to continue our involvement with Starry Eyes!" ends For more information or additional images, in the first instance contact :- Sally Boyle Graham Risdon Starry Eyes Performance Foundation Media Inventions Ltd T: (01225) 763720 Office:(01225) 759045 E:starryeyesgroup@tiscali.co.uk Mobile:(07990) 973727 E:press@mediainventions.com Review: Updated 18th May 2004
We have been extremley busy with events, including a whole day of entertainment at Chicago Rock in Trowbridge which we did on May 1st, what a great time we had there and what a great day it was. Thanks to Chicago Rock for including us in their May Day celebrations and thanks to everybody who came and the lovely phone calls thanking us for a lovely day. Chicago Rock has invited us back Saturday afternoon July 17th. We have also received an award for all our work in the Community, which we are so proud of. Starry Eyes performers were also invited to sing at the Town Gathering before the Mayor. Little Lauren Medway was so proud, she thought she was singing before royalty. Bless! Review updated 09 February 2004 Last year alone saw some many good things happening and good experiences for some of our Starry Eyes performers. For example, Mr Ian Jones won himself a holiday back to Portugal, which is where he is now this year competing for his title. He won with the tracks that he has practised and performed with Starry Eyes, hopefully he will do it again this year. Ian is a 58 year old Trowbridge man that says "I have never done so much in my life as what I've done since I have been with Starry Eyes" Ian who is a singer and has taken part in light opera, was selected from one of his Starry Eyes performances to attend a Dinner and Dance in Warminster as their guest singer, he had people queuing for his CD. 09 February 2004 - Just an up-date on Ian: Mr. Ian Jones went back and defended his title like a real champ. He won through the heats battled against the all the other finalist who were winners from all the competitions held throughout the year and HE WON!! The Wiltshire Times and The Chronicle both covered his story with half page spreads. Excellent. From our oldest to our youngest, 6 year old Lauren Medway came second in a Radio Wiltshire competition just before Christmas. Lauren was 7 a couple of days before the winning results was announced on Christmas Day. The winner had 39% and Lauren had 37% of the votes. This was a good result as Lauren was the only child and she was competing against adults. Kimberley Seviour made it to the last 3 of a karaoke competition, this was a National Competition with people coming from all over the British Isles, her final was held in London where she had made it through to being 1 of the final 8 contestants, she battled her way through and managed to get 3rd place and a prize of £500. Kimberley is our audience choice senior winner of the last Show and she has just performed her first solo professional gig. Amy Griggs is going strong with her song writer, but we are still not aloud to talk about that yet. Kayleigh Varnam has experienced being talent spotted by a song writer as has Nicky Davis. Pete Brooks sang to an audience of 3000 at Southwick Fire work display. Carl Triggs from the Longfield estate sang solo to a large audience being filmed by channel 4 at The Hemel Hempstead Christmas lights switch on as did Rob Desport. Rob also proved to be a big hit with the customers at The Ship in Trowbridge on Children In Need Night. The Longfield Boys managed to win themselves the judges vote in the senior section of last years Talent Show, which was a real triumph for them as they are new to the performance world and didn’t think they could do it. Joe James who won our junior section out right has gone on to win other competitions. Nicola Chatfield from Melksham has been a very busy person, not only does she sing with Starry Eyes but she takes part in many other activities. Nicola competed and got through to the finals of a disco dancing competition, and has auditioned and got main parts in musicals. Nearly all our artist have now experienced time in the recording studio and have experienced performing to capacity audiences. Our workshops at Longfield have started back with great success with 53 people coming through the doors on the first night back from the Christmas break and last week was no exception. We hope Starry eyes can go on from strength to strength and carry on helping us, to help you, to help others.
Our first Compilation CD of some of our artist is now available at £5 a disk to help raise funds for Starry Eyes. Starry Eyes is getting busier and busier, we now have specialist vocal workshops, helping people with their careers, as well as the 'Free For All' on Sundays at Longfield, Dance on Tuesdays for older teenagers and adults, and Junior dance on Thursdays at Southwick. We are also planning to hold workshops for disabled Children. Some of our young adults at Longfield who participate in the MCDJ workshop are planning to hold a Trix Mixing disco soon., and of course we will still be doing all our shows and concerts. .
